Quantum-Safe Encryption: Adapting to Rapid Changes in Cyber Threats

How can embracing crypto agility ensure long-term data security in a rapidly changing environment?

Torsten Jüngling

Director of Security Global Sales

What would be your approach to mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing for clients with legacy systems?

I would prepare for a permanent shift in encryption post-quantum cryptography by meeting these demands with an innovative approach to securing data in transit. It will never be a case of finding a quantum-safe algorithm and relying on that indefinitely. Global organisations will have to find ways to live with the fact that algorithms will be broken and replaced, repeatedly and rapidly. The answer is to embrace crypto agility, where systems are ready to swap in new algorithms whenever necessary. NIST has been very open about this new approach, launching a Post-Quantum Cryptography Standardisation Project, to collaboratively develop robust cryptographic standards capable of withstanding the challenges posed by quantum computers.

How do you stay ahead of competitors in the cybersecurity market?

The cybersecurity market moves at a rapid pace and, nearly every month a new security solution or/and vendor pops up. In BT we monitor the innovation and drive a number of these technologies through our Cybersecurity Assessment Lab (CAL). The best tested solutions, which we know deliver real customer benefit to support business outcomes, will find their way into our portfolio. To ensure we continue to add value within our operation services. We have invested in enhancing our services by deploying advanced automation to all our Cyber SOCs using XSOAR. Our Eagle-i service is an example of how we are providing extra value to our customers by making our existing managed services smarter using Eagle-i’s automation and orchestration.

What role does collaboration with other departments (e.g., R&D, technical support) play in your sales strategy?

BT Security offers and delivers complex cybersecurity solutions to our global customers. During the bid phase, we adhere to our assurance process to ensure delivery against the complex requirements of the customer. In the run phase, the incident and technical support are important, but moreover, it is about delivering the customised insights and intelligence you get from data.
